How much money did we make from our travel blog in March? 🤑👩🏼‍💻

Usually, our biggest revenue stream is affiliate marketing but March had something else in store for us…

Our ad revenue has finally started going up - and there are a few reasons for this:

1) It was the last month of the quarter which usually means higher earnings 📈

2) We’ve been updating and optimizing a ton of old posts to increase our RPM (ad revenue per thousand impressions) 💰

3) Summer season is sneaking up on us and 90% of our blog content is seasonal ☀️🌻
(We’re working towards diversifying this more for this year’s fall & winter seasons).

👇🏼 This is part 3 of our earnings breakdown as travel bloggers —> from March 2021 to March 2024!

In March 2021 we made one of our first ever affiliate sales. It was Dom’s mom who booked an Airbnb through our affiliate link. We were stoked!

Fast forward 3 years, we’re now finally seeing a great increase in our blogging income 😍

$2868 CAD still isn’t enough money for a lot of people to live off but to us it’s a great starting point. Our highest earnings are always during the summer months so this is just the beginning of where this year is going to take us!

Also, keep in mind that we’ve been traveling full time for almost 8 years. We’ve learned how to do it in an affordable way. We have months where our expenses are less than $800 and then we have months where it’s a lot higher (like recently in New Zealand) 🇳🇿

On top of our blogging income we also have a bit of freelancing on the side.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come in the past year and we’re stoked (!) to see that our March income has increased by almost 400% compared to last year. If we can keep that trend for next year, well 😏😏

Our first week back in Madeira has been full on 😍

We got settled into our apartment where we’ll be for the next month and a bit and not long after we arrived, Dom’s dad came for a visit!

Some highlights from the past week:

☀️ Being back in the sun
🥾 Hiking some epic trails
🍝 Lots and lots of good food
🌅 Morning sunrise run
☕️ Way too many coffees (is that possible?)
🫶🏼 Quality time with people we love
💍 Wedding planning
🍡 Jo got a sugar cane from local farmers
🌊 Ocean dips
…and just proof that we also work sometimes 🧑🏽‍💻

Speaking of, that’s probably what we’ll be doing all weekend and all next week 😅

After +5 years as digital nomads, this is one of the most expensive countries we’ve lived in 👇🏼

Aotearoa New Zealand! 🇳🇿

While this is one of our favourites countries, it’s also one of the most expensive countries we’ve lived in as nomads 🥲

We originally wanted to rent a van, but we got quoted $7000 NZD + insurance (and fuel) for THREE WEEKS so instead we decided to find a car and rent airbnbs, hostels, and hop around a bit so we could explore some more places and stay a bit longer in each location (the longest we stayed in one airbnb was 11 nights).

We also stayed in a hostel in Queenstown for a few nights to “save some money”. That was $76 NZD per person per night for a 4-bed dorm 🛏️

We didn’t meet many remote workers & digital nomads while we were there but there were a ton of fellow content creators which was super fun 🥰

All in all, we would totally go back to NZ as digital nomads but it’s also an amazing place to go just for a holiday to make the most of your time there given the fact that you do spend a lot of money to be there! 👩🏼‍💻✈️
