Spending a week coworking in Ericeira, living by the beach, and surfing was exactly what we needed. You don’t need to be in a big city to be able to meet people, network, and enjoy yourself.

Coworking in Ericeira made us realize that you don’t have to be in the middle of a big hub to work remotely.

You can go to more adventurous and outdoorsy places where you have the perfect balance of work and free time to do fun things like surfing.

It was so eye-opening to try out coliving and coworking at the same place!

We have always been a little worried that we’d have trouble finding a balance between work and fun. But with a bit of planning, it was easier than we could’ve ever imagined!

Since we had a schedule planned for the whole week we were there and knew what activities we were doing and when we could plan to work around these activities. We ended up having lots of time to enjoy the camp while still getting our work done!

Why we like to co-work and co-live wherever we go

In life we always strive to find balance with everything we do, don’t we? When we have a good balance between work, fun, community, and relaxation we’re at our happiest. Sometimes as digital nomads, it’s hard to find that balance.

You may end up working 24/7 and completely forget to experience the place you’re wanting to explore. Or the complete opposite may end up happening and all you do is meet people and make memories but completely forget about work – and that’s not financially sustainable. At least not for us 😉

We were stuck in the first one for far too long so now we’ve really been focusing on going places where we can do fun stuff, meet new people, and enjoy ourselves and not only work.

We did a quick Google Search and LaPoint Ericeira popped up.

Jo and I looked at each other and thought it looked like an amazing place to go on a holiday but we weren’t sure if we’d really be able to work there…

However, as our luck would have it, we realized that Lapoint had JUST opened up their very own coworking and coliving space connected to the surf camp.

Then we looked at each other and said YES this is EXACTLY what we’ve been looking for! We booked our stay and our flight tickets and the rest is history.

We instantly fell in love with the place, the people, the vibe, and the lifestyle and we’re definitely coming back again!

Our favourite part about coworking and coliving is meeting other like-minded people like you. Connecting and creating fun memories together!

Making new friends at LaPoint in Portugal.

Why we chose Lapoint in Ericeira

For as long as we can remember, Portugal has been on our list of places to visit. Portugal has always been a hot spot for surfing.

Even though we’re amateurs we love trying new sports and outdoor activities. Surfing is a sport we’ve been wanting to improve at after trying it in New Zealand in 2017.

So we were looking at surf places in Europe that were also digital nomad friendly. We wanted to be close enough to the beach so that after work we could go try and surf and just be close to the water.

We looked at co-working in Lisbon and Porto but we knew it wouldn’t be the same as if we were in a little surf town close to the beach.

Also, from both locations, we’d have to go a bit out of town to actually be able to surf. That’s where Ericeira and specifically LaPoint with their new coliving and coworking space really stood out.

We messaged back and forth with the staff and asked if it was possible to come to the Lapoint surf camp for a week and actually be able to use the coworking space and be a part of the community there.

They almost laughed and told us that that is exactly what they want people to do with the new coworking space they opened up.

LaPoint has always been known for its surfing but soon it will also be known for its awesome coworking spaces. You’ll have the option to book and use the coworking space when you need.

So you could say we were sold in 0.2 seconds because this is literally what we’ve been looking to do for the past few years.

The reason we became nomads and to work for ourselves and travel was to find places like this and meet new people, make memories, and just have fun while also being able to work from anywhere.

We still need to make an income, ya know, but why not combine the best of both worlds when the opportunity is there!? 😉

What a day at Lapoint Ericeira looks like

This is going to be different for everyone but below you can find what a normal day at Lapoint looked like for us.

We chose to actually do the surf camp and use the coworking space on the side.

It’s also possible to come and do the coliving here for a more long-term stay and then use the coworking space full time while surfing on their own before or after work. Some people don’t surf at all but just enjoy the vibes and the view.

Since we had only surfed twice before, we really wanted to learn the fundamentals and the proper techniques so we decided to do the surf camp as well.

A day in our lives at Lapoint coworking and coliving space:

  • 7:30am – Wake up and get ready for the breakfast buffet
  • 8:00am – Eat some delicious food, chat with friends, check our phones, and get ready to surf.
  • 9:00am – Get outside and head to our surf lesson with the LaPoint crew for a few hours
  • 11:30am – Get back to the camp, shower, and get ready to work for a few hours.
  • 12:00pm – We’d usually head to the coworking space and do anywhere between 1-2 hours of work before yoga. This is also the time we’d eat lunch! (The food at LaPoint is delicious, especially the falafel salad!)
  • 2:00pm – Head to yoga for an hour. Feels so nice doing yoga after surfing and the instructor is amazing.
  • 3:30pm – Back to work for 3 hours before dinner.
  • 6:30pm – Dinner time! We’d either have dinner at LaPoint, down by the beach, or walk to town! We’d try and finish work by this time to enjoy the rest of the evening with friends and just hanging out.
  • 9:30pm – Do a little Instagram engagement and small tasks before getting ready for bed.
  • 10:30 pm – Bedtime. Rest up before another day of coworking and coliving in Ericeira!

From our schedule, you can see that we work about 4-5 hours a day which is quite normal for us. You might be thinking…well I need to put in 8 hours! Don’t worry you’ll be ok!

You can follow your own schedule. No one is forcing you to do anything here 🙂

You can always get up early in the morning. Do a few hours of work before surfing, you can alternate between yoga and surfing, or you can just stick to those on the weekends only. It’s up to you!

If you plan your schedule you can easily make the most of your day in Ericeira while also getting all your work done.

Our biggest takeaway after the week at LaPoint

The biggest thing for us when travelling and working is meeting new people and making new friends wherever we go. It’s quite hard sometimes when you work remotely if you’re not staying in a coliving space.

Since the coworking space is connected with the camp it was so easy to connect with the people at the camp.

Even though we were working we were still surfing and doing the same things as everyone else at the camp. We just had a little work to do while our non-working friends were sun tanning and taking an afternoon nap

On top of that, there were other people coworking as well and everyone was super friendly. It was a great way to connect, network, and just make new friendships.

The cherry on top was obviously the surfing! How awesome is it that you can be somewhere as beautiful as Ericeira, close your computer and go to the beach 5 minutes away and surf? Now that’s the life I want to continue living.

See you next time, Lapoint

It is definitely not a “goodbye” but a “see you soon” to LaPoint!

Coworking in Ericeira gives you the perfect balance of adventure, community, and balance while being in a beautiful part of the world.

We loved Lisbon and exploring the city but it’s nice being somewhere a little quieter that is closer to nature and of course close to surfing!

All in all, staying at Lapoint Ericeira was an awesome experience and we’re sure the friendships we made there will last for years to come! So yeah, we will definitely be back for more sooner rather than later!

Till next time, Lapoint 🙂
