Kotor isn’t just a beautiful UNESCO town on Montenegro’s Adriatic coast. It’s also home to one of the most stunning bays in the world, the Bay of Kotor. The best part? You can kayak in Kotor around the most beautiful bay while visiting some famous landmarks and learning about the interesting history of this small country in the Balkans.

The Bay of Kotor does get busy with boat tours from Kotor and even all the cruise ships that come in every day. Navigating with a kayak around the bay is extremely fun. Especially with an awesome tour company and guides that are really passionate about sharing the history of Kotor and Montenegro with the guests.

But since it’s such a popular thing to do in Kotor, there are also many tour options. So which one is best?

Which company is the best for sea kayaking in Kotor

Kotor is becoming more and more popular. This also means that more and more Kotor kayaking and boat tour companies are making their way to the Bay of Kotor. Besides the ladder or Kotor hike and exploring old town Kotor, getting out on a kayak onto the beautiful bay is the next best thing.

Over the years kayaking tours (and even SUP tours) have become more popular in the Bay of Kotor. Adventure Montenegro is a local company in Kotor that offers both kayak and SUP tours and with their experienced and friendly staff.

Their kayaking tour is well organized, super fun and unique, and also quite interesting with all the facts and historic stories the guides share along the trip.

The company does a great job with their tours and we can highly recommend them. They’ll do their very best to give you a great time exploring the Bay of Kotor!

What’s included in this Kotor Sea Kayaking Experience

1. Experience the Bay of Kotor from a unique perspective

We both love to be active so any chance we get to do a tourist activity that’s active instead of just sitting in a boat, bus, or car we take it. Don’t get me wrong, the boat tours in Kotor are great too but kayaking around Kotor is a whole other experience and more up our alley.

The kayaking tour of Kotor is awesome and even just seeing Kotor from the bay is an incredible adventure.

2. Visit beaches in the Bay of Kotor

This is not a challenging kayak trip at all and for a portion of the 2.5 hours you’re on this trip, you’ll also have time to relax and swim at one of the beaches in Kotor. The stop at the beach also splits up the trip a little bit so you’re not kayaking for the full 2.5 hours.

Once you get to the beach in Kotor that your guide picks on that given day, you’ll have time to swim, sun tan, and even snorkel (the tour comes with snorkels you can use).

Most of the beaches around Kotor are accessible by car and you can get to them but they still aren’t that busy since most tourists stay in the city centre. So kayaking to one or multiple of these beaches will take you to a more off-the-beaten-path part of Kotor.

3. See the nearby fishing villages of Muo, Prcanj, and Stoliv

One of the coolest parts of the whole trip is visiting the nearby fishing towns of Muo, Prcanj, and Stoliv. Most tourists will never ever even hear of these places because you really only visit these towns if you go on a boat or kayak tour in Kotor.

This is truly seeing Kotor off the beaten path and seeing what the actual local towns look like. Of course, Kotor is still very Montenegrin but it’s a UNESCO Heritage Site and has had some money to renovate and upkeep it.

The fisherman towns you visit are more run down and authentic in a way. It’s really cool to see this side of Montenegro too! You’ll also hear some interesting stories about the wars and other historic events that took place in the Bay of Kotor and the nearby towns along the bay.
