If you’re driving by Revelstoke and looking for a place to camp for a few nights then Williamson Lake is a great place to stay. Even though it’s catered more towards families and long term stays it’s still a beautiful campground.

The campground is only a few minutes down Airport Road, so if you need to get into town to grab some stuff then you’re only a few minutes away. It’s also very close to Revelstoke Mountain Resort which is known for its hiking, mountain biking, and skiing. That’s where we did the challenging McKenzie Outpost hike.

Gorgeous Echo Lake near Revelstoke.

The campground itself is absolutely beautiful. There is a lake (hence the name) where you can go swim and play around in. Also around the lake, there is a huge forest with some trails that you can go hike and explore. We’ve done our fair share of hiking in there and it’s stunning. You might find a few waterfalls in there so bring a camera if you go.

Even though you’re basically on the edge of town it still feels like you’re out in nature while staying at Williamson Lake. A great and conveniently located place to stay if you’re looking to go camping in Revelstoke.

Here’s a map of the Echo Lake campsite

If you’re wanting something a little more remote and out in the wilderness with a gorgeous mountain lake then Echo Lake is the spot. If you get there early enough and have the chance to get site #42 on this map then go for it (Don’t worry there isn’t actually 42 sites).

Regardless if you can get that site or not you can explore Echo Lake and walk around the hiking trail that surrounds the lake and find a camping spot that overlooks the beautiful lake. You really can’t go wrong with where you set up camp at Echo Lake.

You’ll be surrounded by mountains in every direction. You may even notice Mt Cartier looking down at you while you’re enjoying the lake. One of our favourite pictures from Revelstoke was taken right at Echo Lake. The landscape and nature are magical and make for an amazing camping spot for the weekend.

If you have any toys for the water (paddleboard, kayak, canoe) and have room for it in your vehicle then definitely bring them. You’ll enjoy the lake and relaxing up in the mountains. It’s seriously one of the best camping spots near Revelstoke.

Here’s a map of Begbie Falls campsite

Begbie Falls Recreational Area is an awesome place to go camping. First of all, it’s not very far from Revelstoke. A quick 15 minute drive from downtown and you’ll be there. Secondly, it has some fantastic nature and even the famous Begbie Falls. You can hike and camp very close to the waterfall.

The recreational area is huge so if you want to hike or climb you can do that but you can also walk down to where Begbie Falls connects with the Columbia River and enjoy the water there.

It’s fantastic if you want to even just go for a night and get out of town and experience some beautiful scenery.

There aren’t tons of designated camping spots but once you get there you can walk around and find a spot that works for you and set up camp.

It’s super convenient because you can basically drive your car up very close to where Begbie Falls and the camping spots are located. If you do that, you don’t have to walk too far with all your camping gear.

Mossland Dispersed Camping area is the perfect place if you’re just looking to stay the night camping somewhere close to Revelstoke.

There are no amenities so if you have a self-contained campervan it’s a great place to stay. It’s completely free to camp here in Revelstoke as it truly is just a “mossland” with some power towers, and nothing else.

Thanks for this summary! I’m planning a BC road trip for the summer and Revelstoke would surely be a stop. But by the time I wanted to book a campsite in Snowforest campground all were gone… The Echo Lake campsites seem to be so nice. 🙂

      Hey Bea,

Revelstoke is an awesome stop along the way especially if you’re passing between Alberta and Vancouver. It’s basically smack in the middle! A cute little hiking and outdoor town in the middle of the province!

We’ve recently moved to Vancouver, and yes, it’s right on the way and a tempting stop.

is there any way to book at Begbie falls rec site that you know of? i tried to look and i couldn’t find how and I’m worried there wont be any when i go cause I’m planning my trip for August

    • redwhiteadventures on March 1, 2024 at 1:17 am

      Hey Emily,

From what we can find, it doesn’t look like you can pre-book this one. There are other sites nearby such as Blanket Creek. Those can be booked up to 4 months in advance: https://camping.bcparks.ca/create-booking/ (insert dates + equipment and then select Southern Interior after you’ve hit the Search button).

Alternatively, you can call BC Parks to confirm (phone number can be found here).

      We hope this helps! 🙂

      Best,
      Jo
