Bohemian Switzerland is in fact in the Czech Republic and it’s one of the most beautiful national parks in the whole country. A Bohemian Switzerland tour is the best way to see and get to this national park from Prague!

If you’re looking for an adventurous day out of the city, traditional Czech Food, beautiful nature, and a fun day of walking and talking then this Bohemian Switzerland tour will be perfect for you.

You’ll get to enjoy the Czech countryside which Czechs are very proud of and get to see something outside of Prague.

Don’t get me wrong I think Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world but the Czech Republic has so much more to offer and Bohemian Switzerland is just one of the many examples of beautiful places in this wonderful country!

Why we chose to go with Bohemia Adventures

There are quite a few tour companies that do day trips to Bohemian Switzerland from Prague since it’s one of the more popular national parks in the Czech Republic.

A lot of people also want to see where Narnia was filmed (or at least a portion of it)!

After doing a bit of research we found a small family-run tour company that does quite a few different day trips from Prague to Bohemian Switzerland.

Their tours looked awesome and we loved the fact that they’re a family-run business so we figured this would be the best way to see the national park.

So we booked our trip through Bohemian Adventures and it’s safe to say we 100% nailed it with this company!

Our tour guide Honza (Jan) was awesome and super friendly. He was a good driver and had a lot of interesting things to share.

A tour guide can really make or break a trip so we were very happy with Honza. The trip was fun, comfortable, and adventurous all at the same time!

Where does the Bohemian Switzerland tour start

One of the things we loved about this tour is that they pick you up wherever you’re staying in Prague.

There’s no need to take a Bolt or taxi to some random place or to their office. Honza, or whichever guide is working that day, will stop by in one of the Bohemian Adventure vans and pick you up right at your doorstep.

The thing that’s extra nice about this is that Bohemian Switzerland is actually quite a challenge to get to from Prague if you do it by public transport.

You have to take a train, then a bus, and sometimes even another bus. So the fact that you get picked up at your doorstep and then dropped off inside the national park makes it super convenient.

You do pay a bit more by going on a guided tour versus if you go by yourself (via public transport) but if you want to make the most out of this day trip from Prague then a guided tour is the way to do it.

By going on a tour you really maximize your time and what you can see!

How long is the Bohemian Switzerland tour

You can expect to be gone all day! There are three main highlights of this trip including a quick stopover in Germany to visit Saxon Switzerland.

When we went, we got picked up at 7.30 am and were back around 7.30 pm.

We did have some hiccups along the way which delayed our trip a bit so your tour might be a bit shorter, but it’s definitely a full-day experience.

All in all, you will be gone the whole day and back in Prague for a late dinner.

It seems like a long day but there are two hours each way in the car and some driving between the different national parks where you can sit back and relax or even take a nap if you want.

During the tour, you will also have roughly an hour for lunch (this is included in the price by the way) and stops for coffee and ice cream! Definitely expect to be on the tour for about +10 hours!

What to expect on the Bohemian Switzerland tour

Pravickca Gate in Bohemian Switzerland

There are multiple highlights on this trip which makes it really awesome!

You can expect to see some incredible views from both Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland. One national park is in the Czech Republic and the other is in Germany.

The first highlight is Pravickca Gate which is the largest sandstone gate in Europe! There’s a little restaurant and viewpoint area where you can take it all in and get some amazing pictures.

After checking out the first viewpoint comes lunch at one of the local restaurants in Bohemian Switzerland.

The food is really good and if you get a chance try to order a “bramborak”. A bramborak is basically a potato pancake and it’s very Czech. They’re absolutely delicious!

Boat in Kamenice Gorges

Once you’re done eating, you’ll do some more exploring of the national park before the boat tour through Kamenice Gorges! It’s the most relaxing and beautiful part of the whole day.

You ride this sorta “gondola” styled boat through the gorge and it’s amazing!

Then the last stop of the day is actually in Germany where you’ll make your way to Saxon Switzerland to visit the Bastei Bridge! You’ll have the chance to walk across the famous Bastei Bridge and take in the views from the German side of this national park.

This part of the national park is equally as breathtaking and beautiful as everything you’ll see in the Czech Bohemian side of the park!

So as you can see, there are not just one but three awesome places you’ll get to visit on this tour.

Combined, these highlights make for a packed but fun day of adventuring into the countryside of both the Czech Republic and Germany.

What to bring on the day trip to Bohemian Switzerland

There honestly isn’t too much you need to bring. That’s one of the perks of doing a guided tour to Bohemian Switzerland.

The tour company provides almost everything from snacks, water, covers the lunch, and all that. At least Bohemia Adventures did!

One thing we’d recommend bringing/wearing is proper shoes! We wore our hiking shoes and we definitely made the right decision.

The trails are very walkable but they are trails out in nature so there will be some rocks and dirt and if you do the Top Highlights of Bohemian & Saxon Switzerland tour like we did, you will end up walking over 10km.

Proper shoes aren’t a must but you’ll be thankful once the day trip is done if you wore the right pair of shoes.

Besides that, bring a backpack with a water bottle (we can recommend LifeStraw which is the one we bring with us everywhere) and some extra layers in case it gets too hot or too cold.

In the summer months, sunscreen is also a good idea! Besides that everything else you need in terms of water and snacks, the tour guide will have!

Lunch is also included in the trip so you shouldn’t get too hungry before you get back to Prague.

Other related questions to Bohemian Switzerland

Why is it called Bohemian Switzerland?

The name Bohemian Switzerland actually comes from two Swiss artists, Adrian Zingg and Anton Graff, who were painting inside the national park.

As they were sitting there, they realized it made them feel like home back in Switzerland so they decided to name it after their own country.

The Switzerland part comes from the two artists and the Bohemia part is the region of the Czech Republic where you can find this National Park.

With the combination of the two, they came up with the name Bohemian Switzerland!

Where is Bohemian Switzerland National Park?

Bohemian Switzerland is almost directly north of Prague. The national park is roughly 2 hours north of Prague and located near the German and Polish border.

Bohemian Switzerland is located in the Bohemian part of the Czech Republic – specifically the Usti Nad Labem region of Czech.
