One of our favourite destinations to visit in the Costa del Sol area is Fuengirola. We’ve visited a few times and especially for Jo, Fuengirola holds a very special place in her heart as her mom used to live there as a kid.

Costa del Sol has the most beautiful coastline and there are so many things to do in Fuengirola including some fun boat tours that leave from Fuengirola. It’s not a surprise that people from all over Europe flock to this part of Spain every year for their holidays. The fact that it’s so easy to reach from Malaga Airport is just another reason why people love it so much.

If you’re visiting Fuengirola, you will fly into Malaga airport and from there it is just under half an hour to reach Fuengirola if you go by private transfer. Then it’s time for a proper holiday!

In this post, we’ve put together the different ways in which you can reach Fuengirola from Malaga airport. We hope you find this helpful when you’re planning your trip.

4 best ways to get from Malaga Airport to Fuengirola

Fuengirola-3-day-itinerary-Redwhiteadventures

As we said, it is so easy to get to Fuengirola from Malaga airport and when it comes down to booking your mode of transportation, you’re not shy of options. It all comes down to your personal preferences in terms of comfort, time, and cost.

Below you will find the different options, ticket prices, links to sites where you can book your transfer, and reasons why we recommend each option.

Malaga Airport to Fuengirola by private transfer

Average price: €48 – €56 one way (2 to 3 pax)
Average time: 25 minutes
Convenience: 5/5
Where to book the private transfer: SolHop

We can probably all agree that the most convenient way to travel from any airport is by taking a private transfer, right? Getting through the luggage claim and having someone wait for you with a sign with your name on it is the best way to feel like you’ve just started your vacation! You don’t have to do anything because it is all taken care of. All you have to do is enjoy the ride!

The price you see above is per transfer but includes 2 to 3 persons, so if you’re a small group of people then this option will only be a little more expensive than the other options listed above but so much more comfortable and faster.

We have found that SolHop is one of the best Malaga airport transfers. You can check out their over 2500 positive reviews on TripAdvisor here.

Malaga Airport to Fuengirola by train

Average price: Roughly €3
Average time: 35 minutes
Frequency: Every 20-30 minutes
Convenience: 4/5
Where to book: Rome2rio

We love taking the train and this is definitely a good option if you’re on a bit of a budget. The train leaves right from the airport and goes to the Fuengirola train station. From there you will have to walk to your accommodation which, depending on where you’re staying, might be 10-30 minutes.

If it’s sunny out (which it almost always is) and if you’re trying to get between the airport and the city as cheaply as possible, then taking the train is for you.

Malaga Airport to Fuengirola by rental car

Average price: Anywhere from €25-50 a day + gas
Average time: Less than an hour
Convenience: 4/5
Where to book: DiscoverCars

If there are 2 of you or more travelling together and you’ll be doing lots of exploring near Fuengirola, then renting a car is a good option. Just make sure to check with your place of accommodation what the parking situation is like nearby.

If you decide to rent a car, we recommend renting it from Malaga Airport (instead of Malaga city) since it’s usually the cheapest way – and also the most convenient way since you’ll be able to pick it up right after you land.

We like using DiscoverCars when booking a rental car because that way you can compare cars + prices between the different rental companies and get the best possible price.

Pro tip: The further you book the car rental in advance the more likely you are to get a better discount.

Malaga Airport to Fuengirola by bus

Average price: Roughly €4
Average time: 55 minutes
Convenience: 2/5
Where to book: Rome2rio

The bus isn’t the best option to get between the airport and Fuengirola but we wanted to mention it here so that you could see that it is an option.

If you’re taking the bus from Malaga Airport you will first have to take the bus to Avda. de Velázquez in Malaga (a 7-minute ride which leaves once an hour) and then you will have to switch to a different bus which leaves twice an hour and takes about 35 minutes.

If you time it just right, it should take you just under an hour to get between Malaga Airport and Fuengirola but we definitely don’t recommend this option since there are so many other ways to get between the two.
