When it comes to Revelstoke, you usually find yourself exploring on solid ground with hiking boots, a mountain bike, or a snowboard. But we never imagined seeing this beautiful place from a bird’s eye view – until we did!
If you get the chance to go for a scenic flight over Revelstoke, we only have one thing to say: Do it! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and it is worth every single penny!
We were absolutely blown away by the mountains, the glaciers, and the sheer size of the Columbia River.
Anyone who visits Revelstoke can see how beautiful this place is, so you can only imagine just how beautiful it is from above!
In this post, we’re sharing our personal experience of going on a scenic flight over Revelstoke including the exact tour we did, some pictures of Revelstoke from above, and how you can book a tour as well!
Disclosure: This post has been created in collaboration with Revelstoke. Everything in this post is based on our personal opinions and experiences.
Experience a scenic flight above Revelstoke
There are plenty of fun things to do in Revelstoke from finding all the waterfalls to mountain biking at Revelstoke Mountain Resort but a scenic flight over the Columbia Valley is something else!
When we went on our scenic flight, we went with Silvertip Aviation. It was a great experience and we can highly recommend them.
The fact that the owner was a local and a really nice human made the trip even better!
It’s awesome coming to small towns like Revelstoke where most businesses are family-owned and sometimes even passed from generation to generation.
That’s exactly the story behind Silvertip Aviation where Curtis (the current pilot) took over the business from his father and is now the pilot behind Silvertip Aviation.
Curtis actually grew up in Revy and has been flying planes basically his whole life. He knows everything about the area so feel free to ask any questions you may have about flying, the landscape, or anything else you can think of.
It was really fun flying over all the mountains and hearing stories from Curtis about the area, giving us recommendations, and just chatting while being up above all the mountains and endless glaciers!
At one point, Jo asked, “How many glaciers are there in Revelstoke?” to which he responded, “Too many to count!”
The different scenic tours from Revelstoke
There are quite a few different flights and charters you can go on so below we will briefly go over the different types of scenic tours and what they entail.
You can also request a specific type of trip and I’m sure Curtis will find a way to make it happen!
Seymour Arm Tour
Wanna go to the beach? Curt can take you from Revelstoke and drop you off in Seymour Arm where you can hang out at the beach for a few hours!
You’ll land right on Shuswap Lake and have the afternoon to hang by the beach and swim in the lake!
After an afternoon on the lake, Curtis will take you back to Revy in the seaplane!
Fortress Lake Fishing Tour
Want to catch some Brook Trout in one of the most beautiful places in the world?
Fortress Lake is right on the Alberta/BC border and you’ll fly right onto the lake where you’ll have the chance to fish and enjoy this magical place.
Curt will fly you in and out from the lake and that can all be organized with him!
It’s definitely a trip of a lifetime if you’re an avid fisherman. There’s nothing quite like catching fresh trout in the Canadian Rockies.
Lake Revelstoke & Jordan Tour (we did this one)
This is the tour we went on and it was amazing!
Being up in the sky flying over glaciers and above mountains is a whole other experience than seeing it all from down below. At one point, we were literally speechless because of how beautiful it was.
It was hard finding a balance between trying to take pictures to capture the beauty of the mountains while also enjoying the moment because it was such a cool experience.
The tour was roughly 30 minutes long and we were taken all around glaciers, above Lake Revelstoke, and towards Jordan River.
Throughout the tour, Curtis shared fun facts about the mountains and the surroundings. He also told us that this is the first tour he started doing, and still to this day, it’s his favourite.
We can’t compare it to the other tours as we only did this one but going on this scenic flight in Revelstoke was definitely one of the highlights of our time here!
Stand Up Paddleboard Tour
We recently tried stand up paddleboarding for the first time, and it is so much fun!
On this tour, Curt will take you to a secluded lake where you’ll get the chance to paddleboard and enjoy some quiet time in beautiful surroundings.
First, you fly over beautiful Revelstoke, then you get dropped off by a lake where you can paddleboard for a few hours, and then you will get picked up and flown back to Revelstoke.
This is the best 2-in-1 trip you can do!
Columbia Valley Tour
On the Columbia Valley Tour, you’ll get the chance to fly above the Revelstoke Valley and towards the Arrow Lakes before coming back down to the Revelstoke Airport.
It’s a short and sweet trip (20 minutes long) but you still get an incredible scenic view overlooking Revelstoke and the Columbia River.
We took the ferry across Arrow Lake and the views were amazing so we can only imagine how pretty it must be from above!
Other flight charters from Revelstoke
So as we mentioned, Curt can completely customize any type of trip you’re looking for! With enough heads up there are endless possibilities for what you can do!
A few examples of tours you can do:
- Elopement and Weddings
- Access to backcountry camping
- Mountain top engagement photoshoots
- Incredible remote picnics
- Mountain bike adventures
- Photography tours
For us, the scenic flight just over Revelstoke and the mountains was incredible but we’d love to go back again on one of these other trips next time we’re in Revy!
How to book a scenic flight in Revelstoke
Everything can be booked online on Silvertip’s website. There you can book one of the existing tours or if you want to create your own, you can contact Curt through his contact form or by giving him a call.
Once it’s all booked and you’re in Revy, you’ll meet Curt at Revelstoke Airport! He’ll let you know where to park and meet you there.
From there, you’ll head to the water where you’ll see his seaplane where he’ll tell you about the plane and give you a safety briefing.
These seaplanes are quite interesting and have a cool history so be sure to ask him about it!
Once you’re done with the safety briefing, you’ll hop on the plane and start the tour. If you’ve never seen a plane takeoff from water you’ll be in for a cool surprise.
It’s actually a very smooth transition from the water to the sky and even as you gain elevation it’s very smooth for a small plane.
Everyone inside has their own headset so you’ll be able to communicate with Curt and the other passengers (max 3 people + Curt).
From there it’s all about just enjoying the moment!
We still remember flying over some of those glaciers and being in absolute awe. We were also looking to spot a grizzly or some other wildlife between the trees – without any luck though!
Once the tour comes to an end you’ll circle back towards Revelstoke and land back in the water next to the airport.
Our trip was just over 30 minutes and we’re not kidding when we say it’s one of the most unique experiences we’ve ever had!
This part of the world is so beautiful with the snow-capped mountain tops, alpine lakes and glaciers, endless forests, and monstrous rivers!
