It’s been our dream for a while now to go surf and cowork in Ericeira. We’ve been told the surf in Ericeira along with the coworking makes for an incredible combo. A small town on the Portuguese coast, can’t ask for much more than that.

For the longest time, we’ve been wanting to go visit Lapoint surf camp (arguably the best surf camp in Ericeira).

As Portugal has become more and more digital nomad-friendly we started doing more and more research on coming over to Portugal and spending some time in this beautiful country.

That’s when we realized that Lapoint actually just opened up a coworking space connected with their surf camp in Ericeira!

So you can already guess what happened next! We contacted Lapoint and checked when they had room in one of their next camps, went with it, and let me tell you this… It was the time of our lives!

Coworking in Ericeira with Lapoint

In a way, staying at a surf camp with a coworking space was very eye-opening for us…

We both love being outdoors, doing adventurous things, and being surrounded by people but we also really love our work as content creators and bloggers. So going somewhere that offers it all was just perfect for us.

One thing that I think we both really got out of this experience was that you don’t have to be in a big city or somewhere where everyone else is working 9-5.

Since there’s so many things to do in Ericeira, we found that we were actually motivated to get our work done and then go out and explore and of course surf! It really was the perfect balance.

As soon as we arrived at the surf camp for our week-long stay, Lapoint had a schedule planned in advance for the whole duration of our stay.

That meant that we knew what activities we were doing when, which was great because that way we could plan to work around these activities.

We ended up having lots of time to enjoy the camp while still getting our work done!

Coworking and coliving combination

In life we always strive to find balance in everything we do, don’t we? When we have a good balance between work, fun, community, and relaxation we’re at our happiest.

Sometimes as digital nomads, it’s hard to find that balance. Which then causes burnout and that’s something we definitely don’t ever want happening (again)!

At times, you end up working 24/7 and completely forget to experience the place you’re currently travelling in. Or looking at the complete opposite you may end up just doing all the fun things, meeting people, and making memories but completely forget about work – and that’s not financially sustainable. At least not for us 😉

We were stuck in the first one (working too much) for far too long so now we’ve really been focusing on going places where we can do fun stuff, meet new people, and enjoy ourselves and not only work.

That’s where Lapoint came into play…

We looked at each other and said YES this is EXACTLY what we’ve been looking for!

We booked our stay and our flight tickets and the rest is history. Instantly fell in love with the Lapoint, the people, the vibe, and the lifestyle and we’re definitely coming back again!

That’s why we’ve gone back again to another one of Lapoint’s camp in 2023, Lapoint Surf Camp Sri Lanka!

Back to Portugal, our favourite part about coworking and coliving is meeting other like-minded people like you. Connecting and creating fun memories together and that’s exactly what you can expect at these camps!

Choosing Lapoint Ericeira

For as long as we can remember, Portugal has been on our radar of countries we’ve wanted to visit.

Nature, the ocean, great people, and beautiful weather are just a few of the reasons we wanted to visit Portugal. Oh yeah, the surfing as well!

Even though we’re amateurs (not anymore after surfing for two more weeks at Lapoint Sri Lanka in 2023) we love trying new sports and outdoor activities.

Surfing is a sport we’ve been wanting to improve at after trying back in New Zealand a few years back and Ericeira has been known to have some of the best surf camps.

So we were looking at different surf camps in Ericeira that were also digital nomad-friendly. Basically, some camp that has a good vibe with an area where you can also get work done.

We wanted to be close enough to the beaches in Ericeira so that after work we could go try and surf and just be close to the water.

And that’s where the Lapoint surf and coworking camp in Ericeira came into the picture!

We messaged back and forth with the staff and asked if it was possible to come to the surf camp for a week and actually be able to use the coworking space and be a part of the community there.

They almost laughed and told us that that is exactly what they want people to do with the new coworking space they opened up.

Lapoint has always been known for its surfing but soon it will also be known for its awesome coworking spaces. It’s the best of both worlds!

So you could say it took only 0.2 seconds to say YES, because this is literally what we’ve been looking to do for the past few years.

The reason we became nomads and started to work for ourselves and travel was to find places like this where we can meet new people, make memories, and just have fun while also being able to work from anywhere.

We still need to make an income, ya know, but why not combine the best of both worlds when the opportunity is there!? 😉

A standard day at Lapoint surfing and working

A typical day at Lapoint is going to look different for everyone. It depends if you’re there just for the surf and fun or if you’re working like us. Below you can find what a normal day at Lapoint looked like for us.

We chose to actually do the surf camp and use the coworking space on the side.

It’s also possible to come and do the coliving here for a more long-term stay and then use the coworking space full time while surfing on your own before or after work.

Some people don’t surf at all but just enjoy the vibes and the view.

Since we have only surfed twice before, we really wanted to learn the fundamentals and the proper techniques so we decided to do the surf camp as well.

A day in our lives at Lapoint coworking and coliving space:

7:30am – Wake up and get ready for the breakfast buffet.
8:00am – Eat some delicious food, chat with friends, check our phones, and get ready to surf.
9:00am – Get outside and head to our surf lesson with the Lapoint crew for a few hours.
11:30am – Get back to the camp, shower, and get ready to work for a few hours.
12:00pm – We’d usually head to the coworking space and do anywhere between 1-2 hours of work before yoga. This is also the time we’d eat lunch! (The food at Lapoint is delicious, especially the falafel salad!)
2:00pm – Head to yoga for an hour. It’s nice doing yoga after surfing and the instructor is amazing.
3:30pm – Back to work for 3 hours before dinner.
6:30pm – Dinner time! We’d either have dinner at Lapoint, down by the beach, or walk to town! We’d try and finish work by this time to enjoy the rest of the evening with friends and just hanging out.
9:30pm – Do a little Instagram engagement and small tasks before getting ready for bed.
10:30 pm – Bedtime. Rest up before another day of coworking and coliving in Ericeira!

From our schedule, you can see that we work about 4-5 hours a day which is quite normal for us. You might be thinking…well I need to put in 8 hours! Don’t worry you’ll be ok!

You can follow your own schedule. No one is forcing you to do anything here 🙂

You can always get up early in the morning and do a few hours of work before surfing, you can alternate between yoga and surfing, or you can just stick to those on the weekends only. It’s up to you!

Biggest takeaway from our Lapoint trip

The biggest thing for us when travelling and working is being in a location and environment where we can be social, enjoy the outdoors, and meet like-minded people.

It’s quite hard sometimes when you work remotely if you’re not staying in a coliving space or joining a coworking space

Since the coworking space here at Lapoint is connected with the surf camp it’s so easy to connect not only with the people at the coworking space but also with the people at the surf camp.

Even though we were working while we were there we were also surfing and doing the same things as everyone at the surf camp.

We just had a little work to do while our non-working friends were suntanning and hanging out in the afternoon. But we still got to spend a lot of time with our new friends.

And as we mentioned, there were other people coworking as well and everyone was super friendly. It was a great way to connect, network, and just make new friendships.

The cherry on top was obviously the surfing!

How awesome is it that you can be somewhere as beautiful as Ericeira, close your computer and go to the beach 5 minutes away and surf? Now that’s the life we want to continue living!

Recap of our time at Lapoint Surf Camp

It is definitely a “see you soon” to Lapoint. (Updated in December 2023, it very much was since we’ve now been to Lapoint’s Sri Lanka location as well).

Coworking in Ericeira gives you the perfect balance of adventure, community, and balance while being in a beautiful part of the world.

We loved Lisbon and exploring the city but it’s nice being somewhere a little quieter that is closer to nature and of course close to surfing!

All in all, staying at Lapoint Ericeira was an awesome experience and we’re sure the friendships we made there will last for years to come!

So yeah, we will definitely be back for more sooner rather than later! Till next time, Lapoint!
